What our Mini Pre-Schoolers have be up to in the month of June...

I know I seem to say this every month, but honestly… how are we already at the end of June and about to begin July? It feels crazy how quickly time is flying by!

I’m writing this newsletter while trying to hide from the sun and avoid completely melting in this heat! Alongside trying to survive the heatwave, we’ve been busy writing our moving up reports and exit reports, which has really made me stop and realise just how quickly this year has gone. It’s been so lovely looking back at all the wonderful moments we’ve shared teaching and watching your little people grow… or maybe I should say, not-so-little people anymore!

Topics This Month

Under the Sea
This month we have been exploring our Under the Sea topic through lots of exciting sensory and creative activities, including:

  • Exploring water play using food colouring and sea creatures.
  • Foam play with sea creatures - this was very interesting, especially seeing how many children were unsure about the different texture!
  • Sensory play using ocean-themed rice, pasta and oats.
  • Making ocean playdough and creating prints using sea creatures.
  • Continuing to focus on pen control and developing a comfortable grip when using tools such as pens and pencils.
  • Using tissue paper to create our own jellyfish artwork.
  • Making The Rainbow Fish using lots of different coloured paper.

Summer
As the weather has been warming up, we have also been learning all about summer, including:

  • Using words such as “hot” and learning how we can protect ourselves in the sun.
  • Understanding the importance of drinking lots of water, especially in warm weather.
  • Talking about what happens during summertime and the changes we notice around us.

We have continued enjoying our outdoor play, where the children have loved taking part in group games such as running races, bike races, hide and seek, and lots of chasing games. We even had a little dance party during the managers’ pop-up when Sam brought the speaker outside! One child even requested Sweet Caroline and happily sang along, which gave us all a smile.

We have also continued supporting confidence during group times, encouraging children to stand up and sing songs independently. Some of our current favourite songs have included Hey Hey You You (I Don’t Like Your Girlfriend), Paw Patrol, Rock DJ, Elsa, and many more. We have loved watching this confidence grow, and we are incredibly proud of how much progress has been made.Especially as each time we do it new faces that haven’t stood up before, decide to give it ago!

We have also enjoyed making Father’s Day cards and talking together about why we love our daddies and the special people in our lives.

It is very quickly getting closer to summer, which keeps reminding me that we don’t have long left together, and that I really need to make the most of the time we still have with your little people before they move on to their next adventure.

Things for Next Month

  • Please make sure your child has spare clothes at nursery, weather appropriate as well.
  • Please apply sun cream every morning before coming in.
  • Please bring a jumper for inside the room, as well as a thin coat — it is England after all, and we never know when the rain might suddenly appear!
  • Please take wellies home and only bring them in if the forecast suggests a wet day.

Thank you, as always, for all of your continued support.

Love from

Becky, Amy W, Amy R, Ellie, Kayleigh & Phoebe
